About the role
Cascovia is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to provide technical leadership while remaining deeply involved in hands-on product development.
You will help define the architecture and engineering standards behind Cascovia’s platform while building critical product capabilities across frontend applications, backend services, integrations, data systems, cloud infrastructure, and AI-assisted workflows.
This is not a coordination-only position. You will write production code, lead technically complex projects, review system designs, resolve difficult engineering problems, and help other engineers make strong technical decisions.
The ideal candidate combines strong engineering fundamentals with practical product judgment. You should be comfortable working in an early-stage environment where requirements may evolve, priorities move quickly, and engineers are expected to take ownership from initial problem definition through production deployment.
What you’ll do
Technical leadership
- Define and evolve the technical architecture of Cascovia’s platform
- Lead complex engineering initiatives from design through production launch
- Translate business and product requirements into scalable technical solutions
- Establish practical standards for system design, coding, testing, documentation, security, and observability
- Review architecture proposals and help the team evaluate technical trade-offs
- Identify technical risks, performance bottlenecks, and scalability concerns before they become production issues
- Reduce unnecessary complexity while ensuring the platform can support future growth
- Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, debugging, and technical discussions
- Partner with company leadership on product direction, engineering priorities, and technical strategy
Product engineering
- Design and build customer-facing applications using React, Next.js, TypeScript, or similar technologies
- Develop scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js, Python, or comparable technologies
- Build configurable workflows for loan applications, insurance submissions, document review, approvals, and operational processes
- Create secure document-upload, classification, extraction, validation, and review capabilities
- Design reusable components and services that can support multiple financial products and customer workflows
- Build internal tools that improve operational efficiency and make complex processes easier to manage
- Work directly with product requirements and turn early concepts into reliable production features
- Make thoughtful decisions about when to build custom capabilities and when to use external services
Architecture and distributed systems
- Design services that are reliable, maintainable, observable, and resilient to failure
- Define clear service boundaries, API contracts, data ownership, and communication patterns
- Build synchronous and asynchronous workflows using APIs, queues, events, and background jobs
- Design systems for retries, idempotency, fault tolerance, rate limiting, and graceful degradation
- Evaluate trade-offs between modular monoliths, microservices, serverless components, and event-driven architectures
- Plan for horizontal scaling, high availability, disaster recovery, and evolving customer demand
- Develop strategies for managing long-running workflows and maintaining consistency across distributed operations
Data and integrations
- Design database schemas for customer, application, document, workflow, and audit data
- Work with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, or similar data technologies
- Build reliable integrations with financial institutions, data providers, identity services, credit platforms, payment systems, and insurance carriers
- Define validation, normalization, reconciliation, and error-handling processes for external data
- Maintain data accuracy, traceability, and clear ownership across the platform
- Design secure APIs and integration frameworks that support both internal and external consumers
AI and intelligent automation
- Design AI-assisted features that improve document processing, data extraction, workflow automation, and decision support
- Integrate large language models and machine-learning services into production applications where they provide measurable value
- Build retrieval-augmented generation, structured extraction, classification, and agent-assisted workflows
- Develop safeguards for hallucinations, prompt injection, sensitive information, and unreliable model outputs
- Create confidence thresholds, validation rules, fallbacks, and human-review paths for high-impact decisions
- Evaluate AI features based on accuracy, latency, reliability, cost, and business impact
- Ensure that AI-generated outputs are traceable and appropriately reviewed
- Avoid using AI where deterministic software or business rules provide a safer and more reliable solution
Security, reliability, and operations
- Design authentication, authorization, role-based access control, and tenant-isolation mechanisms
- Protect sensitive financial, business, and personally identifiable information
- Implement encryption, secrets management, audit logging, and secure software-development practices
- Build monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, and operational dashboards
- Establish service-level objectives and improve platform reliability over time
- Lead technical investigations during production incidents and help prevent recurrence
- Improve deployment safety through automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, feature flags, and controlled releases
- Support compliance and audit-readiness requirements through clear documentation and traceable system behavior
What we’re looking for
- Significant professional software-engineering experience building and operating production systems
- Experience serving as a technical lead, Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Architect, or senior individual contributor
- Strong programming skills in TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Java, Go, or a comparable language
- Deep understanding of backend development, APIs, databases, distributed systems, and cloud architecture
- Experience designing systems that support real customers and meaningful production workloads
- Strong knowledge of data modeling, transactional consistency, caching, asynchronous processing, and system integration
- Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React or Next.js
- Experience deploying applications on AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or another cloud platform
- Understanding of automated testing, CI/CD, observability, production support, and incident response

- Experience in fintech, lending, banking, insurance, payments, or another regulated industry
- Experience building loan-origination, underwriting, insurance-submission, document-processing, or financial workflow systems
- Experience with LLMs, LangChain, LangGraph, vector databases, retrieval-augmented generation, or agentic workflows
- Knowledge of OCR, intelligent document processing, structured extraction, or document-classification systems
- Experience integrating credit, identity, fraud, banking, payment, or insurance APIs
- Familiarity with Kafka, message queues, event streaming, or change data capture
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, or serverless infrastructure
- Understanding of SOC 2-aligned controls, data privacy, auditability, and secure development practices
- Experience helping an early-stage product grow from initial prototype to a reliable production platform
- Experience hiring, mentoring, or establishing engineering practices for a growing team
What success looks like
During your first 90 days, you will
- Develop a strong understanding of Cascovia’s product, customers, workflows, and existing technical foundation
